Before you can restore old footage it helps to know what is wrong with it, because “blurry” is really four separate problems stacked on top of one another, and they do not all have the same fix.
First, the source was never sharp. VHS carries roughly 240 lines of horizontal resolution — about 333×480 once you account for how the signal maps to pixels. It was standard definition at best, and no tool can recover detail the camera never recorded in the first place.
Second, analog copies lose quality every generation. A tape dubbed from another tape is visibly softer and noisier than the original, and most family archives are dubs. Third, tape degrades physically: the magnetic oxide layer sheds over decades, producing dropouts and creeping noise.
Fourth — and this is the one people forget — the capture device you used to digitize the tape added its own damage. Cheap USB capture dongles compress hard and in real time, layering blocky MPEG artifacts on top of everything else.
Of those four, AI can substantially undo the noise, the generational softness, and the capture-stage compression. It cannot invent resolution that was never recorded, though it reconstructs far more convincingly than any resize algorithm — that is the whole point of a super-resolution model versus a sharpening filter.

This tool restores video files. It cannot read a physical tape, so if your footage is still on VHS or Hi8 there is a digitizing step first — and doing it well matters more than anything the AI does afterwards, because every mistake here gets baked in.
You need the original deck (a VCR or camcorder that still plays the format) and a capture device that turns its analog output into a file. Capture at the highest quality your device offers, and use the highest bitrate available: compressing once at capture and again on export compounds the artifacts, and the AI then has to fight damage that was never in the tape.
Turn off any “enhance”, “sharpen”, or upscaling feature on the capture device or its software. Those filters guess, and their guesses are worse than SeedVR2’s. Give the model the rawest, most honest capture you can — it works best on unprocessed degradation, and it cannot undo a bad sharpening pass that has already been burned in.

It is not a colour grader, so faded colour, white-balance drift, and saturation loss come through the other side largely unchanged. If your tape has gone orange, grade it first — DaVinci Resolve is free and its colour tools will handle it in minutes — then upload the graded file here to sharpen and upscale. It also will not colorize black-and-white footage.
No. That is data recovery, which is a completely different problem — this tool needs a video file that already plays. If you deleted a video from a phone or SD card, you need file-recovery software (Disk Drill, Recuva and similar), not a video enhancer.
